Jul 19, 2023This TikToker Found a Genius Way to Fake a Giant Piece of Art on a Budget
What happens when you have a large wall space to fill but aren't in love with the idea of a gallery wall nor do you have the budget to go big with your artwork? According to one TikTok user, you can actually go big without breaking the bank — you just have to get a bit creative (and use a couple of power tools).

"So many of you wanted to know how I created this humungous piece of artwork," Drew of the @lonefoxhome TikTok account said in his January video. "Actually, it was a [six] by eight peel-and-stick wall mural that I ended up framing."
Drew first used a laser level to figure out where exactly this mural was going to be placed on the wall. And, with help from a friend, he positioned the first panel of the mural exactly along the edges of the laser level. You can do this step with a standard level and a pencil, too — it's just a bit more fiddly of a process and definitely requires multiple sets of helping hands.
Then, the second part of the mural goes up the same way.
And to create the frame, Drew picked up four pieces of oak boards (he says pine in the video, but clarified that it's actually oak in the comments) and stained them a warm and buttery color to match the mid-century furniture in the space.
He then mitered the corners to what appears to be 45-degree angles and secured the boards around the mural with a brad nailer, inserting the nails at an angle.
You can actually pick up the same mural that Drew used right here. The website gives you the opportunity to choose a custom size so you get a perfect fit.
