Santa Ana man convicted of killing an escort in Newport Beach

Nain Isaac Nieto Hernandez, 36, Santa Ana, is looking at a maximum sentence of 15 years to life after being convicted today of the second-degree murder of Sarai Alcaraz, a 23-year-old escort.

The murder happened on Dec. 28, 2015 at an office complex in Newport Beach. Hernandez hired Alcaraz that night and arranged for her to arrive at a Newport Beach office complex on Campus Drive. Hernandez found out about Alcaraz after he read an advertisement on backpage.com for Cyren Entertainment, an adult entertainment agency that Alcaraz worked for.

Hernandez is set to be sentenced in Santa Ana on Oct. 7, by O.C. Superior Court Judge Richard King, at the Central Justice Center.

Hernandez was a janitor at the office building in Newport Beach where he killed Alcaraz. As such he had full access to the building.

Driver Jordan Beltran took Alcaraz to the building. He parked farther away from the building where Alcaraz was found after Hernandez requested that no driver accompany her.

Alcaraz apparently entered the office building after 10 p.m. and she was inside for about nine minutes. Alcaraz texted Beltran after 7 minutes, telling him that she had received a cancellation fee from Hernandez, but after that she never came out of the building.

Cyren Entertainment manager Lynda Estrada called the Newport Beach police after Alcaraz did not reply to any messages or calls.

Alcaraz’ body was eventually found in a trash can in a janitor's closet inside of the office complex. She died of multiple blunt force injuries to the head according to investigators.

Cameron Talley, Hernandez's defense attorney, claimed at trial that Alcaraz's death was an accident and that Hernandez did not mean to harm her.
