Holmdel Grads Warned To Stop 'Senior Assassin' Water Gun Prank

Nov 08, 2023Nov 08, 2023

HOLMDEL, NJ — At a time when residents are on heightened alert for car thefts or break-ins, a kids' prank called "senior assassin," in which seniors spray another student with a water gun, is not all in good fun, police say.

The Police Department says Holmdel High School seniors playing the game are assigned to "assassinate" another student outside of school grounds by sneaking up on them and shooting them with the water gun.

Police have received calls recently describing how youth are showing up at homes of their targets, sometimes waiting hours for them to come outside, to spray them.

But what seems like a harmless rite of passage is not advisable when, like many towns in the state, car thefts and break-ins are on residents' minds.

Police said this past weekend, patrol officers were called to a house after the resident called police reporting two people were on their property, looking into the garage windows. It was determined the two were playing the senior assassin game and were at the wrong address.

To avoid a dangerous situation, Holmdel police are urging students to stop playing the game immediately.

Holmdel continues to be targeted by thieves looking to steal high-end motor vehicles, police said.

With the heightened awareness of residents in response to these incidents, there exists "a potential for dangerous situations to occur if this game continues to be played," police said in a social media statement.

"While we know this game was intended to be harmless, and a rite of passage for senior students, the current climate warrants reconsideration. Please be safe," police said.
