The food drive is being held to stock the Rescue Mission's pantry to help feed more than 290 formerly homeless men, women, and children that reside at its campuses, as well as additional individuals and families in need throughout Orange County, according to Orange County Rescue Mission President, Jim Palmer.

"In 2020, Orange County was among the ten counties in the U.S. with the highest number of food insecure persons nationwide," says Palmer. "With the local community's assistance, we can aid in providing essential needs like nutritious meals to many of these individuals, along with our residents who are rebuilding their lives after experiencing homelessness."

Community members who are willing and able to help residents of the Rescue Mission and those in need throughout Orange County can support the organization with donations of non-perishable, canned food items such as fruits, vegetables, soups, and meats.

In addition to the canned food drive, the Rescue Mission will be hosting an Easter egg hunt for children in attendance at the Good Friday event and will have an assortment of games and jump houses. Guests will also be provided with complimentary hot dogs, chips, and water.

"This is an opportunity for the local community to come together in joy and support those in need," says Palmer. "We are beyond grateful for every donation, and we know it will make a real difference in the lives of our residents and those who are impacted by food insecurity in Orange County."

The event will take place on Friday, April 7th at Veterans Sports Park in Tustin from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, please contact Nancy Palmer at [email protected].
